Description
Mary Ann and her best friend Kolleen love a mystery, so when Mary Ann's dog sniffs out foul play at the bottom of a muddy pit, the hunt for clues is on. Their search for answers brings Mary Ann and Kolleen into contact with three girls whose parents are part of a group of migrant workers who come to Minnesota each summer to help harvest sugar beets. Little is known about the migrant workers, so Mary Ann and Kolleen's parents caution them to be on their guard. No doubt the same admonition is being given throughout the migrant camp as well, but despite that, the girls become fast friends over rounds of double-dutch jump-roping and mystery-solving strategy sessions. With the end of summer fast approaching, Mary Ann, Kolleen, and their new friends work feverishly to help the police discover the identity of a murderer. And in the process, they also discover some important things about themselves and the town in which they live.--Back cover.
